Beatrice Szymkowiak
Bio
I am a French-American writer. I was born in the North of France and moved to the United States in 2003. I first lived in New Orleans, LA, where I met my wife Nicole in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the levee failure. We moved to Portland, OR in 2007 and enjoyed the natural wonders of the Northwest during 11 years. In 2019 we moved to Wisconsin to allow me to pursue a PhD in English/Creative Writing. I successfully finished my doctorate and currently reside in Flagstaff, AZ.
Education
In France, I earned the equivalent of a BA in French Literature and obtained a PK-5 teacher certification.
In the United States, I earned a MFA in Creative Writing/Poetry from the Institute of American Indian Arts (Santa Fe, NM) in 2017. In 2022, I earned a PhD in English/Creative Writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Employment
I have been an educator in both France and the United States for 20 years. I have taught students of all ages, from PK to college. I am now mainly teaching college and adults.
